BT spam protection - any users?

Has anyone used the BT spam protector which costs 99p per month? I get quite an amount of spam on my primary BT account and am pretty much fed up with it all now. Mailwasher picks it up deletes it all for me so it does not get into my machine but even so I don't like having to delete some 20 spam messages each morning and lots more as the day goes on.

Anyway, I am wondering if there is any point in getting the BT protection or simply cancelling the account and starting a new one - it is a PAYG account and no big deal if it is lost.

I have the BT spam protector and it has certainly cut down the amount of spam arriving on my machine. At .99p per month it's well wothwhile.

I should add that when I go onto the BT openworld page to check my messages, there are usually 25 - 35 spam messages that have been stopped by the BT protector.

If you already use Mailwasher - I wouldn't bother. Although it picks up a good percentage of spam emails and puts them in a special spam email folder (which you can access using the BT webmail) - it isn't a 100% perfect so you'll still need to check.

Since you are already doing this with Mailwasher - save your pennies....

Thanks for those replies. I suppose that as mailwahser is doing the job, there is no point duplicating it all. It just irks me at times to get such a high percentage of spam... I'll save my 99p / month ;-}

I dont know if it is cheaper, but I have a server collect my mail and block the following e-mails... It however does make a copy of suspect spam and holds it for 5 days then deletes.

E-mails detected containing a virus.

E-mails with trackers.

E-mails that are blacklisted by SpamHaus .ORG and Spam Cop.

And finally that contain an address not for me or has: Free, $, Sex, Viagra, etc in subject line.

Works wonders.

All you have to do is set it to get e-mails every 30 seconds from your ISP's POP server.
