BT / intel ADSL Modem causing crash

Anybody else had this problem. An Intel ADSL modem supplied by BT is causing big problems.

After a troublesome installation, I finally got the modem loaded and up & running and I can connect to the internet and do Email no probs.

However if I close down or reboot the system, it wont load windows 98se, it hangs just after the macafee boot virus scan.

Unplug the USB modem and it boots up fine

Any suggestions?

Can you uninstall the driver and reinstall it? Do not plug in the USB connector to your PC until the screen tell you to do so, make sure that you have the 98SE CD ready for the computer to extract the components.

Could be the modem is drawing too much power from the USB hub. Check in Device Manager for the root hub Properties, Power. The modem should be in a seperate root hub of its own.
