BT Home hub / router - is it at fault ?

I have a BT home hub router a desktop PC and 2 laptops. I connect the PC using an Ethernet cable and use the laptops wirelessly.

Recently the laptops have both had trouble connecting to the hub. They either cannot connect ( I get local but no internet connection) or I connect to a neighbour's unsecure connection until I manually disconnect. Using the 'diagnose and repair' facility it tells me to unplug /switch off the hub for a minute or so and then reconnect. This results in me being able to connect automatically to the BT hub.

I don't want to have to do this everytime I use a laptop so is it a problem with my laptops that I can rectify or is the BT hub at fault. Any ideas on how to correct permanently rather than having to do a daily fix?

I would go back to the setup routine for the bt hub and reenter all details and perhaps change the ssid password and possibly alter the position of the aerials on the hub. Before doings all this check what channel the hub is working on and if possible try setting to another channel.

I agree with Howard, try another channel. I think the HomeHub by default trys to select a channel automatically so you will have to go into the hub advanced menu to do this.

Another possibility is that your HomeHub is Version1.0 which is rather unstable. If you have Version1.0 you could ask BT for either Version1.5 or Version2.0 both of which are very much more stable. I used to have V1.0 and had the same problem of having to re-set regularly, but having then upgraded to V1.5 (before the release of V2.0) I have had no more problems.
