Hello, please can any one help with indepth information, as I am a layman when it comes to do anything like this, so here go's,
At the moment I have aol broadband using bt voyager 105 usb adsl modem, now I would like to be able to use a router, so my grandson when he stays can use his laptop, I purchased a bt voyager 2091 wirless adsl router from off ebay, seeing as I have a bt voyager modem, I thought it would be ok, but no luck get all the lights working but when ask to conect nothing, so any help please, thanks yama
It is strongly recommended by All router suppliers that you use a physically connected cable
to the Router (via an RJ45 cable) for router setup.
I take it that you disconnect the USB modem
And installed the bt voyager 2091 wireless ADSL router, connected the phone line cable to the new router
And an Ethernet cable from port 1 to the Lan port on the PC
Check the following before trying to set up the router
Checking the network adapter
1. Click “Start”, “Settings” Network Connection
2. Double-click on the “Network Connection
3. Right-click on the “Local Area Connection” associated with your
Select “Properties” from the drop-down menu.
4. In the “Local Area Connection Properties” window
Click “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” all boxes should be ticked
Click the “Properties” button
5. Select “Obtain an IP address automatically
6 Obtain DNS server address automatically”
7 Click “OK”.
Your network adapter is now configured for use with the Router.
Checking your browser
If you were using dialup before check your browser setting.
Internet Explorer 4.0 or Higher
1. Start your web browser. Select “Tools” then “Internet Options”.
2. In the “Internet Options” screen, there are three selections:
“Never dial a connection”
“Dial whenever a network connection is not present”
“Always dial my default connection”.
If you can make a selection, select “Never dial a connection”
If you cannot make a selection, go to the next step.
3. Under the “Internet Options” screen,
Click on “Connections” select “LAN Settings”
Make sure there are no check marks next to any of the displayed options:
“Automatically detect settings”
“Use automatic configuration script”
“Use a proxy server”.
4. Click OK”. Then click “OK” again in the “Internet Options” page
YAMA, you state..' I purchased a bt voyager 2091 wirless adsl router from off ebay' .. If this router was originally supplied as part of a BT Broadband setup, I think I'm right in saying, you won't be able to use it with an AOL account, without a firmware upgrade/alteration.
I believe you can get firmware revisions which have been altered to make a BT router work with another supplier.
**Someone please correct me if I'm giving wrong advice here.**
well thank you will try them all and see how they go thanks yama
Advice is good. Not sure if that is YAMA's problem but this may be of interest if it is locked click here?
