bt broadband modem alternative.

I recently got connected to bt broadband. Atfirst everything was ok and the connection was more than brilliant(of course better than my 56k dial-up). i was getting very high speed about 490-510kbps in average. But, these days as summer is hitting the whole of uk my internet is slowing down. It is nothing to do with overheating of the CPU or anything like that cause i checked that already. even when it is 2:am in the morning my connection takes ages to simply browse through websites.

I suspect it is the powerhungry BT Voyager 100 adsl modem. If it is then what should i do.

And by the way can anyone please tell me what can actually an ethernet connection do? Because I have got one of these connection on the back of my pc.

Any advice or any suggestions are welcome.
