Got Bt Broadband on Xp machine - ok. Fitted BT Homenetwork to connect 2nd Windows 98 (Not SE) to same connection. Both PCs connect OK, but the Windows 98 PC goes through the motions of shutting down, but then it starts up again.

This isn't mine, but a friends - sounds like the sort of thing you would say to a doctor about an embarrassing complaint, don't it?

Umm,

Sounds like a network adapter needs configuring to not wake on LAN or ping.

You can disable this in the BIOS or in properties of the adapter,.
