BSOD: viamraid.sys/driver_irql_not_less_or_equal

Does anyone know the likely cause/s for the XP blue screen error

It refers to 'viamraid.sys'.

I had this error (among a slew of others) prior to the manufacturer's most recent attempt to repair the machine. The others were clearly hardware/memory type problems, but this error I'm completely unfamiliar with. I don't want to report back to the manufacturer until I have some idea of the cause of this, and some idea whether or not it represents a major problem.

The machine came back from repair with SP2 installed, but the same error was appearing under SP1. It happened both with and without third-party software and hardware installed.

If there's anyone who knows about this problem or has experienced it, I'd be grateful for any advice or insights.
