BSOD Dell Desktop error code 0x00000024

I am having a problem with BSOD error code 0x00000024 on a Dell Desktop running XP. I cannot get Windows to start normaly or in safe mode in anyway shape or form. I would like to try and do a chkdsk /f and any error checks. I have tried to do a repair on windows without using the recovery console and the (R) is not available. I do not want to use the recovery console as I do not want to lose any private data. Any suggestions please.

On bootup press F12 which I think gives you the option for a command prompt to run chkdsk /r or fixmbr.

I had this after using Partition magic and went through a long procedure with Dell tech. In the end I had to get another hd and install xp then repair the original hd as external.
