If i perform a full scan with Mcafee or disc cleanup my system hangs and i get the BSOD, any ideas to resolve this. Its on XP and work fine normally, its only when the scans run

What exactly is the message on the BSOD ?
There should be a line of letters/numbers something like 0x0000000A - that sort of thing, and also a message at the top like IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL From this we can find out what the problem is, post it back here !

Have you recently upgraded your video card or your video card driver ?
Have you recently installed a program/game ?

Hi,
the iastor.sys in the bsod message is a hard drive/storage driver, have you updated/removed a driver?
Try reinstalling the driver.
