browers will not work

  mark29 16:51 17 Sep 06

I can not access the internet through either internet explorer or opera but a second computer networked to this one can, even though the first machine has the internet connection. On both machines outlook works fine. Both use Windows XP sp2.

I've tried turning off norton and using windows but the results the same. I've also checked norton but is lists both browers as permitted.

The problem looks like it rests with the PC which has the internet connection.

Have a look in your start up folder to see if anything else is loading.

Hit Ctrl - Alt - Delete, to bring up the task manager. Check here to see if there is anything running you do not know what it may be. Anything you are not sure of, write it down and do a google search on it. In particular look for 'msbb'

Post back here.

Hi, I've check the task manager and I can not find anything that should not be there. But now when I try to open norton it starts to open then stops!

turn off norton, reboot and then turn it back on again.

In IE go to Tools - Options - Advanced, and reset to default...

Norton and opera now seem to work fine now. Many many thanks but what was the problem?
