Broadband USB problem

I've been asked to look at a PC that has a problem connecting to Broadband. The ISP is BT, they reckon the problem is USB related. I understand the modem is synching OK.

My first thought is to uninstall the USB in question, and let Windows install it again.

Any bells ringing, please, before my visit?

Check the usb is delivering 500 ma to the modem, they need it.

Good point, well put.

Does the USB work with other Hardware?

As far as I know, yes. I won't get the whole picture until tomorrow. I just wanted to gather thoughts.

Then it can be one of two things Faulty Modem, or it needs a mains adapter to run it.

PS is it plugged strait into USB on the computer or through a hub?

Thanks, I'll be taking a spare modem with me.

You could also try another USB socket

No hub.

I have the machine beside me now. Tried to install my modem, Voyager 105, but immediately get:

"Can't get registry value:

Key=Software\GlobeSpanVirata\ADSL

Value=driver type"

Help!
