Broadband speed problem

My broadband seems have gotten slower and slower i used to be able to get a nice 3/4Mbs somtimes as high as 6Mb,it gets to the point at times where there is no data flowing either to or from my pc i have ran a few BB speed tests
,these tests take well over 3 minutes to finish as they freeze part way with no data bieng transfered usually showing my speed as around 600kb download randomly spikig upto 1Mb and falling back down again,my upload speed is around 2/300Kbs mark.

This is on BT option 3 up to 8 Meg and to be honest is really doesn't get up to anything near 8 meg,i have been told by BT my line should be able to get 7Mb download speeds.
I am in the process of getting a BT-I plate for my main socket as i have read good reviews about them and most say it has increased there speed, atm i would like to know if anything can be done my end to try to help the situaion.

Have you tried Turning your Router of at the Back of router not pulling the Plug or switching it of at plug? then turn it back on. I had this once on TalkTalk it went down and down over several days until I did the Above

I cant see a way to switch off the router (BT home Hub) without either pulling out the power cable or the plug, there is no on/off button i can see.

7616 download is equivalent to synchronisation at 6.5 megs. Have you tweaked your settings, this site may help if you haven't.

I would ask BT to check your line.

  RobCharles1981 22:27 22 Mar 09

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 11.0 / 19.0

Should be seeing the full 8mb with that 19 Attenuation

SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 23.0 / 13.0

At 13.0 that's fine

It doesn't suggest me that there's a fault with your line. You have a perfect line.

Just in case thou have you checked your line for any faults follow this guide:
