broadband speed

windows xp with sp3. talktalk broadband with up to 8mb.

i have tried to check broadband speeds several times. for download it moves quickliy up to 3.5Mb and sits there until test finishes but looks as it it is trying to get higher ie it doesn't do a quick jump and peak at 3.5Mb.

could i have a default setting somewhere within wireless settings or something that is limiting my downlaod to 3.5Mb?

many thanks

Have you ever had speeds of more than 3.5mb ... Up to 8mb does not mean you will get that, or anywhere near it even.

It depends on how far away you are from the exchange, plus a possible slight loss using wireless.

I live 580 yards as the crow flies from my exchange and (with TalkTalk) get speeds of 6.5Mb to 7.2Mb using a wired modem router.
