Hi

We are just about to move into a student house (will be 3 or 4 computers linked up to broadband). Three of us use the net alot so we will a need fast net connection. (willing to pay about £35 a month)

We all have fast computers with a network card, though what else do we need so we can all have the internet on each of our machines?

Thanks for any help in advance.

If available in your area NTL 600 B/Band at £24.99 month is probably the best option.

As long as u use a router to connect all systems, you will have, always on internet available.

Yeah, just use it as a guide to see what you want, then look on somewhere like Ebuyer.

You'll need one of these plus ethernet cards in each PC click here

There is a fair amount of networking information on the Linksys website click here
if you want to use a cheap wired router/switch then the Linksys 4 port BEFSR41 will accept connection from four PC's. Checkout the wizard to see how it is all set up from this link click here

Bookmarked! :-)

and a wireless network card in each machine - that's all.

If you don't want to go the wireless route you can connect a broadband router to each machine via standard Cat5 networking cable, but then you've got to run the cable from room to room. You may not be in the same house next year, and if you do move you'll have to go through the same procedure all over again.

My advice is to go with wireless networking - a good router (from Netgear or Linksys) will cover the whole house and take an hour to set up.
