Broadband and sending a fax

  Keithrow 20:38 21 Oct 03

I have looked at previous threads but am still confused.
I am conected to the internet via NTL's broadband modem.
I also have installed an analogue fax/modem. This is not connected to the telephone system.
Can I send a fax with this configuration?
Thanks in anticipation

over this, but the straight answer to your question is no, you cannot send a conventional fax message via a broadband connection - you'll need to connect your analogue modem to the phone line and do it that way.

There are various workarounds, but they all involve sending via the intenet at some stage in the proceedings, and that's not as secure as a telcom line to telcom line direct connection.

Connect your dialup modem to the phoneline , as in the old dialup days and use that for faxing as you would have done before.

I have NTL BB and have my analogue modem connected to the BT phone line for sending faxes through Win XPs own fax software. I have subscribed to the email fax service through click here. this gives you your own fax no for people to fax and you receive the said fax by email.

havent had any problems and can thoroughly recommend it.

My thanks to you all for your kindness.
I should have said that I am using 98se as my operating system but will try to find a lead to conect what I had thought of as my 'old outdated modem'.
