Broadband problems

Just gone live with Virgin but ended up buying a US Robotics ADSL modem, any tips for altering any settings etc.
I have had to switch off Norton's Personal Firewall 2002 so that I could get my mail and access some sites.

It doesn't seem like 10 times faster.
According to a test I ran it was 127kbps, where is the rest??

Can't use my old modem even through a line filter.

Try this for starters:

There are a multitude of reasons for poor performance on ADSL. I always start by giving the PC a good health check. Most problems can be attributed to the PC end of the link.

You don't say what modem you have installed. USB or PCI?

Norton Firewall works very well but it does need to be configured.

sorry, I am on XP pro with a USB modem, I will digest the link you suggest and see what happens before coming back, thanks so far Bill.

I've done a quick tweek and it seems to have improved considerably, forgot to note my speed before but it was in the low 200's now its in the 400's, so we shall see what happens.

I have subscribed to the page as well, thanks again.
