Broadband and Phone connection

  Bagsey 18:49 27 Apr 09

I have my desktop and my wifes laptop connected to broadband via a router and they are hard wired. The problem is that for sometime now my Answer Phone light does not flash to indicate a message on either of the 2 phones that are connected. Can anyone tell me why this is happening.
I find it strange that both phones are affected.
Thanks for any help with this .

Assuming there is a message, are these answerphones or 1571 message service?

1571 service

Sorry, not familiar with 1571. So your phones must receive a signal to activate the light, in addition to the interrupted dial tone? I would raise a fault with BT.

Good advice Thanks. Will do that tomorrow

I've found, in the past, that the 1571 service, in this case with dial-up modems, can knock out the internet service if messages aren't deleted.

However, I don't see how it would interfere with a broadband service.

AS you say I dont see how it can interfeer with broad band. Also I get 1571 messages so rarely that I usually delete them straight away. In this present case it the only message there. The telephone chaps were working in the next road to us so am wondering if they were the cause.
