broadband connection/slow web pages

I am exasperated!!! Please can any one help, am running windows xp with bt broadband. It takes several attempts to log on, once on it takes about 20 mins to load the first web page, after which the internet runs fine at a decent speed. I have phoned bt at least 30 times, had line checks, installed current drivers for the modem, downloaded an mtu adjustment tool, something called bootvis, all to no avail. Everytime I ring bt they go through the laborious process of all these checks and then delete the current internet connections and create a new one, this works BUT the minute I switch off and try and log on the next day it has thrown it out again and I'm back to square one. (I have patch for blaster worm, so it's not that) PLEASE if any one has any ideas I would be so grateful.
