Broadband connection lost

I have broadband router and PC card. Seem to have lost settings for network card. "ipconfig /all" in command line reveals no settings. System says 1394 adapter working fine.
Tried to remove and reinstall network card. Windows tried to set me up a VPN, so I stopped it.
Anybody any ideas?

I will guess your using XP from the 1394 ?

Does your router have a modem in it (router/ modem)?

Also is a PCI card (NIC) ethernet RJ45? or are you using firewire(1394)?

To test your NIC (card) go to>start>run>cmd>ping 127.0.0.1 "this should give you reply's if Windows is seeing NIC"

I believe where gonna need answers to others question to help you more.Your full setup and OS.

Thanks
Don't think that the router has a modem in it. 1.7 Ghz processor, router supplied (unbranded) by plusnet. D-Link ethernet card. Running windows XP. Using RJ45.
Will try to ping 127.0.0.1

Many thanks for help
