what is the average download speed for broadband?

  DieSse 22:39 26 Jun 03

It all depends what speed you contract for. If you take a "standard" 512Kbps service, then you should get somewhere around 350-400kbps on average.

But there are many other factors at play which might lower that significantly.

Why do you ask?

the average download rate is 56k. 10 times (actually more) than your dial-up modem.

downloading at 350-400kb. aye right!

When downloading from a stedy/stable server mine usually averages 50-58kp/s

on ntl 600k works out at 70kb when downloading.

so for 512 expect around 60-65kb for downloads.

it will depend on the time of day,how busy the site is and the location your downloading from.
