Booting from wrong drive!

I have had HDD problems recently - basically dead! I have taken a drive (an old Maxtor N256)from another PC to format and load XP to get the PC live again.

To format it, I put into a removeable caddy in another PC (also XP)but thay PC keeps booting from the drive in the caddy. I have removed the jumper on the N256 (as I think that's right for Slave), so I'm puzzled why this is happening.

Any ideas please?
