Boot problems - Dell Inspiron 5150

Notebook gets to Dell screen then says memory write/read error decreasing available memory - hit f1 or f2. If I do this it boots winxp but only 256 Mb of ram is shown.

Sometimes windows reports missing or corrupt file - system32\drivers\pci.sys. This stops machine from booting - sometimes the driver message is different. If I boot again it will repeat this until memory error comes on then will boot OK - showing only 256 Mb of the 512 Mb ram.

Is it one of the memory sticks failing/failed?
Thanks

Only one way to find out. Remove one stick and see if it works ok. Then swap. that would be the easiest and quickest way to find out.
