boot up problem

Dear All,

I have a rather old pc (p4 2MG, GForce2, 512m) and suddently it decided not to boot up. In fact it only boots after 20 to 30 attempts for some reason.

The interesting thing is that the bios details are not coming up at all!!!!!!!
Monitor, and hard drives are checked and are fine. What else can go wrong? If there was a problem with the motherboard or the processor I can not understand why it still boots after many attempts.

Is it a hardware or software problem...the fact that the bios information does not appear in the screen puzzles me..

Thank you all in advance

Could be a dead motherboard (CMOS) battery.

I would never had thought of that.
Thank you very much DS, you saved me from some unnecessary expenses

Did you try the battery or simply take me on my word? If the latter, I hope your confidence is justified!
