Boot up messages - FastTrak Controller & BIOS

I have a Mesh PC less that one year old running Windows XP and Broadband. It works fine but since adding my previous hard drive as a secondary drive, on boot-up an ISIS Motherboard screen now appears, and after scanning the IDE I get the messages - No drive attached to the FastTrak controller. - The BIOS is not installed. Then Press F10 to recover.
The lines prior to this this state FastTrak 378 BIOS Version 1.00.0.37 2003 Promise Technology.
It won't let me upgrade to XP2

I have not come across this specifically but as it happens after adding a hard drive it would suggest that some setting is awry. The most likely being that the second drive is not set as slave but as master. This can and does lead to strange errors in bios.
