Boot MCE from SATA and XP from IDE

At present i'm booting XP Pro SP2 and MCE 2005 from my IDE Master - selecting which one on startup to boot into.

What i want to do is format my IDE and install XP back onto it, and then install a SATA drive and install MCE onto that.

Is this possible, as i will have 2 Master drives.

Yes, you can. I do just that (though with 2 versions of XP).

The SATA drive is treated by XP like SCSI, so the master disk factor doesn't matter; anyway, there is no such thing as a SATA master disk.

You can choose which disk to boot from in the BIOS.

Remember that you will have to reinstall most of your programs, though you can share the data, though the drive letter it is on will probably be different.

Hi Mong0L,

The biggest problem I had was remembering which drive was which in the BIOS, since it shows internal model names - WD12345-88F meant nothing to me until I'd worked out whether that was the IDE or SATA disk!
