Boot manager problem

I have 3 hard drives on my comp ,One with Xp installed one with vista .i have just tried to install vista on the third ,it started ok and formatted the drive but showed an error of a missing file .,I have tried all ways to start again but it will not boot from the cd ,there is a boot manager problem.I have uncoupled the other drives and tried to install both xp and vista without success.How do I repair the the boot manager when I can't access the drive ? Any suggestions would ba appreciated
