My old PC is IBM APTIVA 1997 upgraded to Win98se and processor running at 333KHz. Extra hard drive 20G fitted with Ontrack D.D.O. to see all new drive. Worked well till I tried to connect to my new PC running Win XP Home which told me to make a config floppy to use on the other PC for the newly installed PCI card and LAN. On running floppy in old PC it crashed and refuses to boot even into Safe Mode. Ontrack Data Advisor will run and tells me all is OK. On using Win98se Startup Emergency Disk it says "preparing to start your PC" but it does not do so, giving just a command prompt! What can I do to get it going? I cannot reach CDROM drive.

How much ram in old pc?

  Zephyranthes 18:15 16 Aug 04

old PC has 128Mb RAM which is the max for that model.

Maybe PSU isn't big enough? When you say cdrom can't be reached do you mean you can't change boot sequence in bios to boot from it?

Yes, the option to boot from the CDROM has vanished. It now only offers A Drive or C Drive from which to boot.
