Boot disk failure

iv just installed a new HDD, the bios has reconized it after doing an Auto detect, the post sees the new HDD too but after that it comes up with boot disk failure please insert CDROM. I was expecting to see no operating sytem installed but this message indicate to me that i have a faulty HDD would i be right in thinking this.

Sounds as if the disk needs to be formatted / fdisked. What OS are you going to install? If XP, boot with the CD and format, partition etc. as necessary.

No i havent formatted yet . so i guess i need to format 1st . I want to install XP but only have win 98 At the moment can i format using my win 98 disc then install XP when i get.

Yes, you can install Win98 and then get the XP CD and do a clean install with it - easily done and will work fine.
