Bogus security warning

Hi All,

I'm on here on behalf of a friend who cannot use his PC due to a virus.

He accessed a site via Google and received a warning that his PC was infected with harmful trojan viruses, which told him to click here to get rid of these. Unfortunately, he clicked and allowed the site to download some software on to his PC.

Now his desktop icons are missing and he cannot access control panel or his AVG icon. Each time he does a warning comes up to say he's infected and to buy their security or continue unprotected.

Any advice, please?

Turn off PC completely - wait several minutes, then re-start in Safe Mode. While in Safe Mode, try a System Restore back to before the problem arose.

If that works, then run all his Anti-everything programs.

Thanks Technotiger.

Talked him through it and he says it's stopped. Just running scan and will get him to sort out his security settings.

Cheers
