bluetooth connection problems

I have just upgraded my laptop to a Sony PCG-Z1RSP (yes, seduced by the looks).

The bluetooth function is driving me nuts. I'm trying to connect my Nokia 6310i mobile phone as a modem but can only do so via the standard modem over bluetooth included with the Sony/Win XP Pro which only gives 9600bps. The Nokia supports 28Kpbs and I used to get this speed via my old Dell with a USB bluetooth dongle? I've downloaded the latest Nokia modem but still no joy, it just disconnects immeadiatly?

Other problem is getting MS ActiveSync to work via bluetooth in order to sync my Compaq ipaq. I can set up the connection and sync via the usb cradle and I can make bluetooth file transfers to and from the Sony/Compaq but ActivSync over bluetooth refuses to set up a connection?

Any ideas out there???
