blue screens / bios update

I have a Sony VAIO PCG F801A which I have recently added 128mb ram to (60mb originally). I am now getting a lot of problems when starting up, (blue screens - having to restart etc). I've been told I need to upgrade my BIOS which is currently version: R0109K3. I have an AMD - K6(tm)-III Processor. Does anyone know how to go about doing this??

Many thanks, Paul.

It sounds to my mind more like a faulty memory chip than a need for a bios update - have you tried the pc without the extra RAM or with just the new RAM and not the original one?

YES: WORKS OK WITH ORIGINALL RAM, BUT STILL HAS PROBLEMS WITH JUST NEW RAM. SPOKE TO CRUCIAL WHO SUPLIED THE CHIP - THEY SUGESTED UPDATING THE BIOS.

As it is from Crucial, I would be loathe to say that it is faulty; are you sure it is the correct one for your mobo?

I still would suggest that you ask Crucial to check / replace the RAM for you before a bios flash.

Anyway, click here for details of bios flashing.
