PC crashes and blue screen shows the above message. Also gives some other data (memory locations?) labelled STOP and VETEFILE but I haven't managed to write it down before screen clears and it goes back to switch-on screen. pc usually restarts OK but just now had several goes before it ran OK. Message came up several times when apparently fully OK saying a prefetch file was corrupt and run CHKDISK. Another crash followed shortly.

Am running Win XP home with IE7. Have full virus, firewall, spyware protection. Also Paragon multiboot. That seems OK.

Any ideas?

If it's saying there's a prefetch file error, you could try clearing out the prefetch folder (in C:\WINDOWS) and rebooting - windows will automatically recreate all the prefetch entries, hopefully clearing out the corrupt file.

Thanks rick808. Was waiting to see how your suggestion went. Fingers crossed, it's fine so far. Well done
