Help needed!! My daughters PC gets halfway through loading windows (98 or possibly 98SE) with desk top icons up but toolbar icons starting to load when the dreaded blue screen appears. Unfortunately we have not made a rescue disk. The blue screen message is as follows: An exception OE has occurred at 0028:C004BA0 in VxD VFAT(01)+ 00007838. This was called from 0028:C182E450 in VxD voltrack(04) 00000430.

I can load windows in safe mode but really have no idea how to repair this for normal mode. Can anyone out there help? The computer has got vital work on it so we can't loose the data!!

Try this:
1. Restart your computer in Safe mode: Instructions here:

2. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.

3. In the Named box, type scsi1hlp.vxd and then click Find Now.

4. In the list of found files, right-click the Scsi1hlp.vxd file that is located in the Windows\System\Iosubsys folder, and then click Rename.

5. Type Scsi1hlp.old, press ENTER, and then restart your computer.

Fruit bat. Thanks. The PC got further into loading windows but then crashed with the following:0028:C003C112 in VxD IOS(01)+0000158A. this was called from 0028.C182C8F0 in VxD voltrack(04)=00000430
Pressing a further Key I got Message: fatal exception OE has occurred at 0028C00116872 in VxD AVGCORE(01)+000555E2
This latter message always seems to be the 'final' blue screen.
Any further ideas would be very welcome
