I woild like to know if there is a way to block a individual website through windows xp, or usinf freeware?

Tools-> Internet Options-> Privacy-> go to Websites (at the bottom) and click Edit. You can then block the site you want.

Sorry, should have said that's in IE6. I'm pretty sure there are similar facilities in Opera and Netscape.

Dunno but, you can undo your actions by going back and go through the procedure in reverse.

Sorry again, misunderstood. In my system I have loads of sites blocked (mostly advertisers) and all that appears in the box is the name of site i.e. something like bloggs.com. All the www's and http's are not there.
