Blank screen in media viewers

I'm getting a blank screen (audio is ok) in all tested media players when playing local files and online.
:o/s - XP pro
:players tested - windows media player, real, ATI file player (ATI TV also gives a blank), quicktime (quicktime
:file types tested- AVI, MPEG, MOV

Strangely DVD playback is ok

Done the usual uninstall/reinstall/update etc. Suspect it is codec related.
I've discovered how to uninstall 'em, but had to sys restore to get them back as the downloaded MS app which is supposed to do it said it had but I couldn't find 'em.

Spent hours searching the web.

Anyone know anything ?

Ok. My G card is a Radion All-In-Wonder (9200 256 mb) with the two OEM ports that come with adaptors for analogue I/O. I can't say this applies in every case BUT I found it is essential not to have any devices connected to these ports when installing the drivers.
