Blank Desktop

  Knocker 16:05 18 Sep 03

I am currently experiencing an intermittent problem where all the icons and bottom status bars disappear(not the blue screen of death)for no apparent reason and I am left with an empty desktop. The last time it happened it was preceded by a "runtime error" screen, but occasionally happens when I close a program e.g Excel. Is it possible to recover the desktop with rebooting?. I am running Win98SE.

What happens if you right click the desktop and select Refresh?

Thanks VoG. It hasn't happened again today (yet?) but next time it does I will try that.

My problem happened again when closing down my e-mail (Outlook Express)and there is no response to right clicking the blank desktop. The error screen was:-
Runtime error
Program C:\Windows\explorer.exe
pure virtual function call
