Bios/Hard Drive advice

I have an Asus A8V-VM Mobo running Windows XP Home SP2. My Hard drive is a Seagate 80G UDMA Mode 5. My Bios is set to 'Auto' on the option for detection of the hard drives UDMA setting. I have noticed that on booting the machine the Bios is showing the hard drive as running UDMA Mode 3. Is there any particular reason for this? On the UDMA option within the Bios beside the 'Auto' setting on the drop down list there are UDMA modes ranging from 1 to 5. I have noticed that if I manually select the UDMA Mode 5 option my image program (Norton Ghost) runs a lot faster when creating and restoring images within the DOS environment. Is it safe to manually select the UDMA Mode 5 option or should I just stick with the 'Auto' setting. Any advice appreciated.
