I am just about to upgrade the bios on a toshiba satellite 1800 model 814 from version 1.4 to 2.1.
According to the toshiba website, it is a very simple operation. The new bios is for windows and I am using XP. Any advice greatly appreciated.

If it you don't have a very good reason; don't.

This help room is full of threads about BIOS upgrades going wrong and useless motherboards as a result.

Thanks Last Chip. I don't really have any other option. See "Laptop shutting down".

If you really think it will help, all you can do, is check and double check you have the correct BIOS file.

Then carry out the manufacturers instructions to the letter (print them off) and pray you don't get a power cut!

It always seems like an eternity, but in fact the whole thing is over in a few minutes.

Most of all, when you do it, make sure you don't have any distractions.
