BIOS updates for my PC

I have read threads over the last few days about hardware not working correctly because BIOS updates have not been added etc.

I dont have any problems with my Packard Bell PC but in the very near future i am looking to upgrade my RAM, Sound and Graphics i have the following details Of my PC should i update my BIOS and how would would i go about doing it?

Main Circuit Board
Board: GIGABYTE i810 1.3x
Bus Clock: 100 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 3.0W 07/10/2001

My rule about BIOS updates is if it ain't broke don't fix it, translated if you have no problems you should not touch your BIOS as it is very easy to get it wrong, even computer professionals are wary, and if you do you've completely buggered up your motherboard

I agree with mikef™. Don't update the BIOS for the sake of it. Potentially hazardous.
