BIOS update - cannot be achieved thru Vista

AMD Athelon 64 processor, 3000+ 1999 MHz, 1 core
Motherboard: Foxconn K85755A-6ELRS
BIOS: Pheonix Technologies, 6.00 PG, 16/08/2004
Graphics card: Athelon X1550 AGP, 256 MB
Memory: 1.5 GB

Vista Ultimate 64, service pack 2

Last BIOS update was 2004.
I cannot update the BIOS thru the Vista O/S environment by either using the 'BIOS update disk' that came with the computer nor thru the Foxconn BIOS update website. The 'O/S is not supported' error occurs. Will also not work in the Vista "XP compatibility mode".

Does anyone have any idea as to how I can force a BIOS update? There is not enough room on the HDD to install XP for this purpose.

The computer runs okish, but hangs generally and often will not resume from hibernation necessitating a hard boot.
