hi all i recently had a sudden blue screen that didnt give me time to read the display, just went dead.after several reboots i finally got the message "bios rom checksum error, detecting floppy drive a media drive a error. system halt".on another pc i got the info to remove the cmos battery for twenty minutes and all would be well, as luck would have it , it did work, all is now well. my question is what could have caused this , even tho i have looked i can find the solution but not the cause, for future avoidance really, os + vista home, 3.07 ghz celeron, 150gb hd, mainboard is a "award software binternational 2.0".......thanks

Usually this sort of error is caused by a faulty cmos battery.

If the battery does not need replacing, it could be that the contacts tothe battery have become dirty, or even a mild corrosion over a period of time.

This does sometimes happen hence certain electrical contact being gold plated.

If its now ok, it's probbably just cleaned up by being removed
