Hi M8s

i have a gateway 500 with 20gb hardrive and would like to fit bigger hardrive can any1 tell me how to find out what the intel motherboard with 440bx chipset will support

From this information it's not possible to tell - but it's very likely 32Gb maximum from a board of this sort of age.

BUT - never fear - there are programs supplied by drive manufacturers which can *fool* the BIOS into accepting larger capacities. Seagate and Maxtor have such utilities, so preferably try and stick with these well-know makes.

There are other issues if you try to go too large a capacity - so I would stick with an 80 or 120Gb upgrade.
