bigger hard drive

hav a 8gb hard drive as primary master, got new drive (80gb) which i want 2 use as primary master. wen put in thou the auto-detection hangs and does not find. wen set jumper to limit 2 32gb, it finds the drive (only half of the drives capacity). is it safe to update bios?, y cant i partition drive (c:\ 40gb, e:\ 40gb?). hav installed as second salve, copied 8gb drive over (windows,etc), wen try 2 put 80gb drive as master again, still does not find as primary master. help?

If you are on Win98 you need to download the Large Drive support patch from Microsoft. Please tick the other Thread as it will cause confusion

Dragonfury as you say the only way out maybe a BIOS update, but this is not done lightly and can be disasterous if done wrong.

What is your motherboard?
