Best way to stop pornographic emails?

My brother is currently receiving between 10 and 15 porn emails a day. I have tried various things (Ad-aware, Microsoft Defender, System Restore)but still they keep coming. What else can I do to stop them? His ISP suggested Spybot but you have to register which costs about £20, does anyone have any other suggestions? (He is running XPP/SP2 firewalled with Norton)

Spybot is free click here

Try Mailwasher (free) click here - it won't stop them being sent but will allow them to be deleted from the mail server and not downloaded to your PC. Do not use the Bounce option as it simply adds to the crud clogging up the internet.

I suppose its a daft question but is there no unsubscribe link in the emails for you to unsubscribe/stop receiving the emails.

"Spybot but you have to register which costs about £20"

Nonsense - Spybot is a free download.

In any case it will not stop the type of e-mails your brother is getting.

They are, essentially, spam.

Use click here to filter them out

Clicking on unsubscribe links on spam simply confirms to the spammers that they have hit a real e-mail address. Result: an exponentiasl increase in spam. Don't click them, just delete the messages.

Many Thanks for your response, Spybot and Mailwasher duly noted. So is there really nothing else proactive which can be done to stop these emails at all?

Other than giving up the internet, no.

Avoid having your e-mail address plastered on websites.

If your brother isn't too attached to his e-mail address, advise him to stop using it and get himself a new one. Drastic but 100% effective. Try the free solutions first if you want to.

Since when did spybot ever stop emails porn or otherwise?

  michaelandjolou 22:43 19 Oct 06

I agree. Nothing to stop anyone trying them though!

Spam - Stupid, Annoying, Pointless Mail or, alternatively, a very funny Monty Python sketch about the food product (UK production switched abroad incidentally a little while back).

One method to reduce the impact is to install Mozilla Thunderbird with its Junk filter that can be "trained" to divert such e-mails instantly to a Junk folder.
