My Norton antivirus is due for renewal and in these austere times I need every penny.
Should I download Avast,or AVG free or install the AVG 6month trial available with PCA?
I'm leaning toward Avast as I use it on another PC and I,ve used AVG before and it seemed to slow down the PC a great deal

A very subjective matter everyone will have their favourite. Mine is Microsoft Security Essentials

I use Avira (free). Other good ones are Avast and MS Security Essentials.

AVG has had a lot of bad press for its latest version.

AVG is fine if using W/7.Slow on XP.

MSE seems to be quite good. I have been using for about a year with no problems on Vista or Win 7.

Broadband from Bt - free Mcaffee
Broadband from Virgin - Free AVG Suite
Bank with Barclays - Free Kaspersky

I think several other banks do free AVG

Santander, RBS, NatWest - Rapport ( not ANG but a worthwhile protection for banking )

I have asked before if PC Advisor can cover Banking software security - an article we all would benefit from .......

also

Microsoft Security Essentials.
Avira Antivir
AVG Free.

I'm an MSE fan - runs in the background and doesn't seem to slow the PC like some.
