Best Antivirus free for XP

  tobyjug2007 02:32 09 Dec 08

Anyone advise me which free Antivirus programme is the best and the least hungry as far as RAM and CPU usage is. Most people seem to use AVG 8, i personally think that slows my pc down, i'm just trying Avast Pro...any other suggestions that are thorough but dont take forever to scan your PC, automatic updates, Norton is a bit too keen for my liking and the firewall blocks my email programme ( Incredimail).
Thanks in advance.

AVG and Avira have too many missing facilities for my tates. Avast is better in this respect.

Uninstalled AVG 8 and Avast, just rtying Avira, just puzzled if these programmes automatically update, or do i need to do it manually?

thanks peeps, i'll stick with Avira for a few days, just got an email for a 60 day trial for Kaspari or some similar named programme, i just want good protection, that updates and runs automatically, yet doesn't slow my pc to a snails pace using my RAM or CPU ....i thought AVG, slowed it down terribly, yet it is widely used?

Avast Home Editon 4 and ClamWin Portable are Free
I use Avast
I hear ClamWin Portable is not slowing down the PC

I use A2free click here as a check for my normal antivirus program.
It will run from a CD, if you are really pushed o resources, howvever you will not get all the latest updates.
