I'm sure many people will come up with a variety of answers to this question, for what its worth i would recommend HP psc 1350, I find it ideal for home use and at a very reasonble price.

Prints you would not believe.

Built in card readers, and colour LCD preview screen. Can crop originals. Poster printing etc. etc.

Can Scan slides and negatives (positive prints).

Cartridges (6 separate) can be pricey in the high street (£12 each), but they do have a reasonable capacity. By shopping around on web can be got for less than £30 per set, and you don't need to change all at once.

Although this printer is towards the higher-cost end (I paid £168), I maintain the results speak for themselves.
