Benchmark and XP Pro...

I am about to upgrade to AMD 64x2 technology. Out of curiosity I thought I would benchmark my PC config now to check it against what I get after the upgrade. I run XP Home. I installed PCMark from a cover CD. When I ran it, it said it could not complete all the tests as I did'nt have "MediaEncoder9" installed, and pointed to a MS download link. I downloaded it but when I tried to install it, it said it could not as I was not running XP Pro? What's all this about then? Does one have to have XP Pro to benefit the 64bit techno? (beginning to worry now as the new kit is on order). Anyone out there care to hold my hand !

"Does one have to have XP Pro to benefit the 64bit techno?"

No you need Windows XP 64 Bit Edition.

Is the place to get the latest version of PCMark.

64 bit kit with 32 bit Windows will work fine. I'm running XP Pro on a AMD 64 3200+.

When you download the Media Encoder #make sure you get the Windows Media Encoder 9 Series file and not the Windows Media Encoder x64 Edition 9 Series. You only need the x64 version if you already have Windows XP 64 Bit Edition installed.
