bellwire disconnection problem

I've just disconnected the bellwire at the main BT box and achieved a remarkable improvement in broadband speed. Problem is that it's become erratic. When I first made the change all went really well. However, when I switched off the computer and switched on the following day, I had problems getting any pages up. Although apparently connected to the internet, I couldn't even get my home page up. Reconnecting the wires made an instant improvement but switching off and going back later the system was again erratic. By switching off the modem and retrying several times I can eventually get pages up. Anyone have any ideas/advice.

The modem is re-negotiating the speed with the exchange modem. Leave the bell wires off and give it a few days to settle down. Each time you change something, it has to start all over again.
