I have a wired Belkin router and when im conneted to the internet through the router my download speeds become dramatically reduced to around 70k. But if i connect to the internet without going through the router i can achieve upto 1500k download speeds.

I have gone to the belkin web site and have reset the router to its factory settings, as intructed by the help desk, but i still get 70k download speeds.

I have a virgin media 2m broadband installation using windows xp pro.

Is my router faulty or can this be rectified.

many thx.

I would suggest you call belkin technical in my experience they are excellent

Try changing the MTU value in the routers configuration pages. This is what you should see or similar unless this has been changed.

PPPoE - MTU = 1492
PPPoA - MTU = 1500

My isp is Orange and my Belkin settings used are PPPOA but i have changed my MTU to 1400,this gives me a very stable connection with reliable speeds.

You could also try changing the channel number within the routers configuration.

What model router ?

the model number of the router is F5D5231-4

i tried contacting belkin but they wasnt particularly helpfull to be honest, they just directed me to their test site then hung up on me.

if i have set the router to its factory settings im assuming that sets it to how it is when first bought from the shop.
